The K1 wines from Geoff Hardy are premium single vineyard wines. Geoff Hardy found the ideal site for the production of outstanding cool climate grapes in the Adelaide Hills. The vineyard became known as the K1 vineyard, as this unique, ground breaking site was the first vineyard in the Kuitpo region. The K1 Chardonnay is rich and complex on the nose and has buttery and toasty aromas, with a hint of cinnamon spice. A smooth palate with a continuation of spiced and toasty notes with white peaches and green apples. For the lovers of a bigger more complex Chardonnay, this is an excellent find!

K1 Chardonnay is styled to accentuate the characters of Kuitpo’s cool growing conditions and terroir. The fruit is gently handled to ensure aromatics are retained, with French oak and partial malolactic fermentation used to enhance the wine’s purity of fruit character.
The nose offers a beautifully complex combination of white and yellow stone fruits, green apples, and almonds. The palate is delightfully smooth and complex with lingering fruity notes of white peaches and green apples supported by mineral undertones.
Geoff Hardy is the Vigneron & Managing Director of K1 wines, prior to this he had worked in his family's wine business Thomas Hardy & Sons in 1975 and then two years later completed he diploma in wine production. Shortly after this, Geoff and fellow viticulturist Ian Leask purchased a vineyard in McLaren Vale, followed by Geoff finding a perfect location for producing cool climate grapes in the Adelaide Hills. He planted the vineyard in 1987 and named it K1 since this unique site was the first commercial planting of vines in the Kuitpo region in the southern Adelaide Hills.
A visit to K1 begins the moment you turn in to the drive, as you follow the steep avenue of trees that perfectly frames ‘The Lakehouse’, home to the stunning K1 Cellar Door. You would be forgiven for thinking you had arrived in the Swiss Alps or the Canadian Rockies, as you sweep left around the man-made lake that gives the Cellar Door its name. And if you should be lucky enough to visit during the Autumn months, you will marvel at the many hues of the trees that encircle the entire Adelaide Hills vineyard.
Its a place to put on your list to visit if you find yourself in the region, alongside the experience you can taste the wines that make up K1 which include a Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé, Tempranillo, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Merlot. These are wine to get amongst!
Geoff Hardy suggests enjoying the wine with chicken dishes such as Moroccan chicken tagine with preserved lemon and green olive cous cous.
