2021 Somos Cabernet Franc

A little vineyard in Willunga, picked in two waves, one early and herbaceous, one later for generosity, blended to make one complete wine. Wild fermented, pressed early to old oak and then bottled after 9 months.

“Somos", meaning ‘we are’ in Spanish, is the brainchild of two winemakers: Mauricio Ruiz Cantú and Benjamin Caldwell. They represent new McLaren Vale, as expressed through a kaleidoscope of alternative varieties, styles and intriguing flavours. The pair work primarily with less-known Italian and Spanish varieties, and they make them in entirely unconventional ways, with a lo-fi and sustainable ethos.

"We focus on using alternative and obscure varieties from sustainably farmed vineyards, and making them in a natural/minimal interventionist way. Native ferments, no additions except minimal SO2 and incorporating techniques that produce more interesting styles, such as early pressing reds, whole-bunch fermentation, skin contact and extended maceration whites and playing around with co-ferments and field blends from time to time”.

The pair met whilst studying Winemaking & Viticulture at Adelaide University, and their wines are the result of mixing two unique wine backgrounds: Mauricio hails from Mexico, and Benjamin from Australia.

Orders less than $199 are shipped for a flat fee of $15 for standard delivery, or $20 for express shipping.

We are an Australian based company, licensed to sell alcohol across Australia. Currently we ship to all states except NT. All orders are packaged securely for a safe transit to you from our temperature controlled warehouse in Sydney.
