2021 Head Wines The Contrarian Shiraz

Each vintage I like to express the Barossa in a contrary manner. ‘The Contrarian’ is my indulgent, creative winemaking outlet and challenges traditional concepts around Barossan Shiraz.

We source Shiraz from vineyards in the Eden Valley which develop flavour at lower than usual alcohols and show ripeness in their stems too. We use cement as a fermentation vessel; which holds the acidity and tannins in a fresher light. We mature (instead of age) the wine in larger more neutral oak so the fruit & stem tannin can give the wine a different experience with protein dishes. We love what we see in this expression of the Barossa and feel it is a style worthy of your table. Alex Head

Head Wines is a renowned winery that has made a mark in the Australian wine industry. Located in the Barossa Valley, South Australia, Head Wines is known for producing exceptional, small-batch wines with a focus on traditional winemaking techniques.

Alex Head, the founder and winemaker, has a strong admiration for the wines of the Rhône Valley and works with a number of small growers over having his own vineyards to bring to us his take on the old world wines of the Rhône Valley.

With a dedication to quality over quantity, the fruit for Head Wines are carefully selected and come from all sites that are farmed sustainably using organic principles where possible and where yields are controlled, and grapes are hand-picked.

SHIPPING

We offer free shipping over $199! There is no minimum order quantity. Mix and match your own wine pack!

Orders less than $199 are shipped for a flat fee of $15 for standard delivery, or $20 for express shipping.

Once your order has been placed, you will receive an order confirmation via email. We'll dispatch your order within 24 hours during week days.

We are an Australian based company, licensed to sell alcohol across Australia. Currently we ship to all states except NT. All orders are packaged securely for a safe transit to you from our temperature controlled warehouse in Sydney.

DELIVERY

For the delivery of your items, please allow up to 5 business days for most metro areas, and up to 10 business days for remote areas. Please note these timeframes are estimates only and not a guaranteed delivery date. 

You will receive delivery tracking updates once your order has been collected from our delivery partner. All wine deliveries can only be signed-for and accepted by a person 18 years and older.
