We love the Jones Road Pinot Meunier with its abundance of Pinot character, but equally how well it's balanced with richer, darker fruit notes and a hint of spicy forest berries. On the palate, it offers a smooth, graceful texture, with well-integrated tannins that accentuate the signature crunchy red cherry flavour with a savoury aspect towards the finish of the wine. It's showing a great well defined structure for the price point.

The grapes were fermented in open pots after being destemmed not crushed. The wine underwent a cold soak maceration for 7 days prior to being left to commence fermentation naturally with indigenous yeasts. Following pressing the wine was racked off heavy lees to a selection of new & seasoned French oak barriques. Malo ferment occurred slowly but naturally & the wine was left on fine lees for 11 months before it was racked & left to settle in tank for another 3 months before it received a light filtration prior to bottling.
Plenty of Pinot character but combined with darker fruits and spicy forest berry. The palate is supple, lithe and even with layered tannins holding the typical crunchy red cherry flavour finishing form the fine-grain savory French oak. Terrific balance and resolve with great line and lingering finish.
Jones Road was established by the Frewer family back in 1997 at Somerville on the Mornington Peninsula. The region has a maritime climate, producing some of the Australia's best cool climate wines as a result of the late ripening of the fruit, the fertile soil and particular vineyard management. Over the years, the family has secured vineyards in a couple of other locations on the Peninsula, and with a hands on approach to the vineyard and winery, we see exceptional wines coming from Jones Road with varieties including Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Syrah.
The 2019 Jones Road Pinot Meunier from the Mornington Peninsula has a balance of Pinot character, dark fruit notes, and a hint of spiciness. Given its profile, a wine pairing option to complement the flavours might be Mushroom Risotto. The earthy and savoury notes in a mushroom risotto will complement the wine's influence of oak. The wine's balance will also work well with the creamy texture of the risotto.
